How to test your mouse online — 4 steps

Step 1 — Open the mouse tester in your browser

Step 2 — Click every mouse button and check the diagram

Click each button on your mouse one at a time left button, right button, middle click (press the scroll wheel down), scroll wheel up and down, and any side buttons. A double click fault is when your mouse fires two click events from a single physical button press. It is one of the most common mouse hardware problems especially in mice that have been used for more than 1 to 2 years and it causes specific, frustrating problems in everyday use.

  • Text accidentally selected or deselected when clicking once

How to test for double-click fault

In the TechTester mouse tester, watch the left button click counter while clicking at your normal speed. Each single physical click should increment the counter by exactly 1. If you see the counter occasionally jump by 2 from a single click, your left button switch has a double click fault.   2. Update touchpad driver: Device Manager then Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices then right click your touchpad then Update driver. Or visit your laptop manufacturer website and download the latest touchpad driver for your model.
  3. Enable touchpad gestures: Settings then Bluetooth and devices then Touchpad then confirm gesture settings are enabled. Two-finger scroll, three finger swipe, and pinch to zoom can each be disabled individually.
